Cetraben Ointment is a versatile emollient designed to ease the dry skin symptoms associated with eczema and psoriasis.
It can be used as a leave-on application, bath additive, or cleanser to help moisturise, soothe, and soften dry skin.
Many common cleansers, moisturisers and other skincare products contain harmful irritants like parabens and other preservatives, fragrances, and colorants that irritate or dry out skin. These should generally be avoided by people with eczema, psoriasis, and other dry skin conditions.
This white-coloured, opaque ointment is free of these irritants and contains white soft paraffin and light liquid paraffin that help to moisturise and protect the skin. By reinforcing the skin’s natural protective barrier against moisture loss, hardened skin become softer and slowly normalises.
This easy-to-use ointment can be applied day or night by adults, including the elderly and by children of all ages. It can be used as a soap substitute as well as an emollient.
The ingredients in Cetraben Ointment are:
- White soft paraffin
- Light liquid paraffin
- Cetostearyl alcohol
- Polysorbate 60
Cetraben Ointment can be used in several different ways. Always wash your hands before applying.
As an emollient:
Apply the ointment directly to affected areas of dry skin, smoothing gently into the skin in the direction of hair growth. It can be used as often as needed.
As a cleansing soap:
Work a small amount of the ointment into a lather by adding a little warm water. Then use as you would a normal soap in the shower or at the wash basin. After rinsing, pat gently dry.
As a bath additive:
Add around 4g (one teaspoonful) of the ointment to hot water, using a suitable heat resistant container. Then add to your bathwater and soak as normal.
Cetraben Ointment is safe for use by children but store it out of their sight and reach. It should be used externally only and care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes.
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients (including cetostearyl alcohol) may cause a skin reaction. If you should experience such a reaction, discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms continue.
Take extra care when getting into the bath or shower when using this product, as it can make surfaces more slippery than usual. Clean residue away after use.
Avoid contact with clothing and dressings, and avoid coming into contact with naked flames when using this product.
If your skin is badly cracked, infected or bleeding, consult with a medical professional before using; it can generally be used safely by pregnant or nursing women but check with your doctor first, if you are unsure.
Cetraben Ointment has no known side effects when used as directed. No known interactions with any pharmaceutical products exist.
